Cornel West Statement
The recent heated exchange with my dear brother Al Sharpton is not primarily about him, me or even the President. The fundamental focus must be how we fight back in this vicious war of Wall Street oligarchs and corporate plutocrats against poor and working people.
We all must agree to sometimes disagree because so much is at stake in regard to the precious poor babies, elderly, and so many others that I am fundamentally committed to telling the truth about the ugly right-wing policies that crush the poor and working class peoples.
I remain profoundly disappointed in Pres. Obama's weak and feeble resistance to the vicious attack on poor and working people. The closeness between my dear brother Al Sharpton – who's courageous record of struggle for the poor and working people is undeniable – and Pres. Obama must be honestly examined in light of what we can call the MLK criteria: Always making poor and working people your priority and fighting organized greed at the top.
Sadly, much of the Democratic Party is the centrist face of Wall Street oligarchs and corporate plutocrats just as the Republican Party is the right-wing face of the same group of elite. This is in part why poor and working people are catching hell, and too few in the upper classes love and care for them to speak out.
Stay strong my brothers and sisters of all colors.
